The Buncombe County Schools Board of Education is committed to providing a safe, inviting, and civil educational environment for all students, employees, and other members of the school community. The Board expects all students, employees, volunteers, and visitors to behave in a manner consistent with that goal. The Board recognizes that bullying and harassing behavior creates an atmosphere of intimidation and fear, detracts from the safe environment necessary for student learning, and may lead to more serious misconduct or to violence. Accordingly, the Board prohibits all forms of bullying and harassing behavior, including encouragement of such behavior, by students, employees, volunteers, and visitors. Additional information on reporting and responding to bullying is available here>>> https://bit.ly/3YG6ib4

We have a fun Make & Take activity to help students begin developing routines at home to help with the transition back to school. We invite you to join us on August 15th from 4-6pm on our school playground. We will have all the materials for families to make a fun routine chart with your child to use at home. We will also have ice cream and you can visit with other Avery's Creek families. We are very excited to offer this free event and we hope to see you there!
We are excited about the upcoming school year! Be sure to save the dates below!
Attention ACES Families! There's only one week left to submit an application to be part of our school's Advisory Council. The Advisory Council provides important feedback and informed advice to school administration so decisions can be made with community input. If you would like to be considered for this committee, visit aces.buncombeschools.org and click on Get Involved under our News section. Applications are due by July 31.
Attention, BCS Staff:
We hope you are having a wonderful summer. Don't forget to check our Employee Values page regularly for local special discounts just for educators.

ACES 4th graders wrapped up their year with an amazing performance. Ms. Saldarriaga's class performed a traditional Columbian dance, the 4th Grade Leaders Choir sang, and all 4th grade classes sang and recited facts and songs about the state of North Carolina. What a great way to wrap up a fantastic year. Happy summer!!!!
Second grade celebrated their hard work with Doctor Day today! Students got to perform syllable surgery, learn about germs, and diagnose patients. What a great day!
There are lots of great things going on in the Buncombe County Libraries this summer! Check out the Summer Library Fest next weekend, as well as the amazing calendar of free summer activities! #buncombecountylibraries
Last week the graduating TC Roberson class of 2023 paraded through the hallways of Avery's Creek Elementary School. Many of the TC students were ACES graduates! It was so great to see students reconnecting with their elementary school teachers and to see the current ACES students looking up to the graduating seniors. Best of luck to the class of 2023 and CONGRATULATIONS!
This week third grade ACES students created 3D printed designs of their cursive initials. Students first practiced writing their initials on Fundations paper, they then went into Tinkercad and traced their initials. These designs were sent to the 3D printer and students were able to take home their 3D designs! 21st century skills in action!
ACES students completed their "I Am Unique" Unit with Ms. Wilson this week.
For this project, students showed that they could name parts of their body, talk about their health, share their feelings, talk about their clothing and present about themselves to an audience. Way to go!
4th grade did some hands on learning with Snap Circuits and Little Bits yesterday in the media center. They created light switches and made fans go using circuits with battery power. So much fun!
ACES second grade students went to visit the Western North Carolina Nature Center yesterday. Second grade has been studying the life cycles of various animals. The WNC Nature Center brought their learning to life by giving student the opportunity to see animal life cycles in action!
ACES transition night was a great success! Families came to learn about their students' rising grade levels. Teachers talked with families about how to prepare for the upcoming grades and families had the opportunity to ask questions and meet the teachers. Our amazing guidance counselors shared breathing techniques and gave out stress balloons and our book fair was bustling! The book fair will be open for its final day on Monday. Hope to see everyone at the Spring Fling tonight!
