OHS student awarded challenge coin.

This morning when one of our buses accidentally backed into the mud, Owen High School 9th grader, Richard 'Zay' Hilliard-Maxey, stepped up to assist the bus driver and Assistant Principal in evacuating the students through an emergency exit; no students or staff sustained injuries. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office heard of his acts of service and felt the need to award the student with a challenge coin, a unique gift that recognizes officers and, in this instance, community members for their hard work and dedication to the people of Buncombe County. We so appreciate Zay's bravery and cooperation in helping his fellow students safely transfer to a new bus and get to school quickly!
