Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!

Welcome to Avery’s Creek Elementary School; the BEST school in the world! ACES-#1!  I hope you enjoyed time with your children, relaxing, resting, and enjoying quality family time fun this summer! We have been working hard at the school preparing for your family to come join us and we are so excited that you will be a part of the ACES family!

I know the last several months of the 2019-2020 school year were quite different than any of us ever expected but I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all of you and my to my staff for a wonderful job navigating those last three months of school.  I am proud of how everyone pulled together to make everything work as well as it could in such short time.

Our staff has been busy making plans to enter in to the 2020-2021 school year. As you can imagine, plans change, sometimes daily.  We appreciate the communication and collaboration between and among staff and families we have experienced thus far and we look forward to this continuing as we start our year.

School begins on August 17 for everyone. We will hold Meet the Teacher (Virtually, not in person) on Friday, August 14 from 1:00-3:00.  (Your child’s teacher will reach out to you to let you know which hour).  For those who chose the Hybrid In-Person model of instruction, your child will be assigned either Week A or B. Week A students will come for onboarding on August 17 and 19thWeek B students will come on August 18 and 20th.  Remote Only students will not come to school unless they need to come pick up a device (that schedule is posted on our Facebook page.) Everyone will be remote on Friday, August 21.  Monday, August 24th will begin remote learning for everyone until September 28th when the school board will reconvene to decide our next steps. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you very soon to let you know what week your child will attend and what time on August 14th you have Meet the Teacher. The teacher will also provide the Zoom link to access Meet the Teacher.

We are excited to enter our sixth year of the Leader in Me program which is centered on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  I hope by now, for those of you who have been with us, your children are continuing to use the language of the 7 Habits which are 1) Be Proactive; 2) Begin With the End in Mind; 3) Put First Things First; 4) Think Win Win; 5) Seek First to Understand Then to Be Understood; 6) Synergize; 7) Sharpen the Saw; and 8) Find Your Voice.  In A Leader in Me school, all students, every day, are told that they are important, that their voice matters, and that they are capable and talented. It is a place where students are given opportunities to use their strengths and talents. As we kick off our sixth year, our teachers will, spend a chunk of time directly teaching students the 7 Habits—what they are, what they mean, and how they can be applied. Staff and students will work to create a classroom mission statement as well as a personal mission statement and will post these in a visible area of the classroom. As we move into year six, our teachers will revisit the 7 Habits with the students and integrate them into their lessons. I have attached some resources for you below to use at home with your children during this time. I hope they help!
