Veterans Day Celebration at ACES
Posted on 11/12/2018

In honor of veterans nationwide, the T.C. Roberson High School Air Force JROTC students performed a respectful folding of the American flag as part of a Veterans Day celebration held Friday at Avery's Creek Elementary. The younger students looked on in awe as the three cadets demonstrated the seriousness of their responsibility, while a fourth read aloud the meaning of each of the thirteen folds.

“Our students get to participate and realize that the sacrifices that veterans make need to be celebrated- not just on Veterans Day, but each and every day,” said Colonel Tom Bell, with 26 years of military service and in his ninth year of teaching JROTC at Roberson. “This is a day to honor and remember them, especially those men and women who are deployed away from their families during the holidays and throughout the year. This is an opportunity to thank them.”

During the program, Avery’s Creek students sang patriotic songs, performed on recorders, read personal thank you messages into the microphone, and gave a standing ovation to U.S. Marine Corps. veteran Gregory Hunt after hearing his heartfelt message.
